A classic game of snakes and ladders is simple to learn, educational and nostalgic for the whole family. A true family foundation game.

If you want to play a classic game with an adult audience, consider injecting your own "house rules" to make it more interesting.

• Roll two dice and choose. Give each player two dice and let them choose which one to move with. For example, if a player is one space away from a snake, and rolls a 5 and a 1, they can use the 1 to avoid the snake.
• Multiple tokens. Each player can have two or more tokens to move. On their turn, they can choose which token to advance. The first player to get all their tokens to the finish wins.
• Move others. Roll two dice. Use one to move your own token and the other to move an opponent's token. This allows you to push rivals onto snakes or pull them back from ladders.
• Take cards. Before starting, create a deck of cards with special actions. Players draw a card when they land on a designated square, or start with a hand of cards they can play on their turn. Actions could include:
  • Magic tokens that temporarily turn a snake into a ladder or vice versa.
  • A "Bumping" card that sends an opponent back to start.
• Strategic interference. Instead of rolling in turn, everyone rolls at once. You can use your roll to move yourself or "donate" it to an opponent, forcing them to move more spaces, potentially onto a snake.
