Geometry Discs are designed to enhance spatial awareness and depth perception through hands-on interaction. These discs promote dexterity and fine motor skills while encouraging creative exploration of geometric shapes and patterns. Ideal for developing cognitive, creative and visual-motor abilities, they provide a tactile experience that supports learning in both educational and therapeutic settings.

Contents:  Approx. 120 Cosmos discs in a container.

Games for learning and memory

  • Shape and colour matching: Draw or write matching shapes, colours, or numbers on pairs of discs. For toddlers, start with basic shapes like circles, squares, and triangles.
  • Memory game (Pelmanism): Create your own memory game by drawing pictures or writing matching words on pairs of discs. Mix them up, turn them over, and have players find the matching pairs.
  • Disc board game: Arrange the discs into a path on the floor or a large piece of paper. Use a dice and a small toy as a counter to move along the disc path.
  • Sorting: Have children sort discs into different groups based on their attributes. This can include sorting by colour, size, or shape.

Creative and sensory play

  • Art prints: Dip the discs into paint and press them onto paper to make colourful prints. This allows children to create art while learning about shapes and patterns.
  • Collages: Cut out various geometric shapes from paper and use them to create collages of monsters, vehicles, or houses. For a more imaginative twist, create a "shape monster" using different geometric discs.
  • Sensory bin search: Hide discs marked with letters or sight words in a sensory bin filled with sand, rice, or other materials. Children can dig and search for the discs, which adds a tactile element to learning.
  • Make your own board game: Use a geometry template to trace different shapes on cardboard and colour them in. Lay out the shapes on a large bristel board and let children use their imagination to create a game with their unique pieces.

Language and literacy activities

  • Name builder: Write the letters of a child's name on wooden discs and have them arrange the discs to spell their name. This is a great activity for beginner writers.
  • Build-a-word: Use the discs to practice blending sounds and building simple words, such as c-a-t or d-o-g. This is a good activity for children who are learning to read.
  • Letter sorting: Write letters on the discs and have children sort them into groups, such as letters with straight lines (L, I), curved lines (C, O), or both (B, D).

Outdoor and physical activities

  • Toss and count: Number the discs and have children take turns tossing them toward a bucket or hula hoop. Have them count the discs they successfully toss into the target.
  • Shape scavenger hunt: Create a checklist of shapes and have children find objects around the classroom, home, or yard that match the shapes on their discs.
  • Target practice: Mark a target on the ground and have children take turns flicking or rolling the discs toward the bullseye.

Building and construction

  • 3D shapes: Use geometric discs with playdough and toothpicks to build 3D shapes like cubes, pyramids, and prisms. The playdough acts as joints while the toothpicks act as edges.
  • Tessellations: Challenge older children to create tessellations by fitting discs together without any gaps or overlaps. This helps build spatial reasoning skills.
  • Balance games: Create balancing challenges by having children stack the discs on top of each other in different formations.
